Looking to the future
Sponsorship of Additional Rabbinical and Jewish Education Students

We are currently in contact with young adults from Ukraine, Germany, Australia, Hungary and Czech Republic who are eager to study Hebrew in an intensive Ulpan in Israel and then apply for rabbinical studies or a program in Jewish Education at the Schechter Institute.

Each student’s living expenses are approximately
$11,000 a year plus $2,000 for travel to their home communities to participate in seminars, lead services, work in kehillot, etc.

Total per year: $13,000

Six years = $78,000 (includes preparatory year and five years of study at Schechter)

Support for International Rabbinical Students and Jewish Educators

As we strive to develop and support our growing kehillot, schools, NOAM (our youth movement) and Marom (Masorti young adults), we must look to the future. Without a planned program for the development of local young, charismatic and well-educated leadership, the situation in the communities will remain stagnant. It is crucial that we fund suitable young adults to take on rabbinical and educational leadership roles in their home communities.

Currently, there are two international students studying for the rabbinate at the Schechter Institute for Jewish Studies in Jerusalem. The Schechter Institute has generously provided a scholarship for tuition to these students. However, the students also need a stipend for living expenses. Masorti Olami seeks funds to provide this stipend.

In return for receiving the stipend, the students commit to traveling to Masorti communities during holidays and summers and volunteering. Their work includes organizing seminars, working in camps, kehillot and on doing special projects for the movement. We need additional funds to cover the transportation costs and expenses for this important commitment.

TOTAL AMOUNT FOR A COST OF LIVING STIPEND FOR CURRENT RABBINICAL STUDENTS (including transportation and expenses to serve in Masorti communities during their studies):

Total per year: $13,000 per student

Total for Five years: $65,000 (both students have already completed the preparatory year)
